"Remembering the Legacy: Carl Weathers, the Iconic Apollo Creed and 'Mandalorian' Star, Leaves a Void in Hollywood at 76"
Sad news today as Carl
Weathers, best known for his role as Apollo Creed in the first four
"Rocky" movies, has passed away at the age of 76. His manager, Matt
Luber, confirmed the news. Weathers had a diverse career, appearing in films
like "Predator" and playing a memorable role in Adam Sandler's
"Happy Gilmore." He also received a Primetime Emmy nomination for his
work in "The Mandalorian."
In addition to his acting career, Weathers voiced Combat Carl in "Toy Story 4" and had a recurring role in "Arrested Development." He played various sports in his youth, including boxing and football. After a brief stint in the NFL, he transitioned to acting with roles in blaxploitation films and TV series.
Weathers faced a moment
of disagreement with Sylvester Stallone when asked to use footage from earlier
"Rocky" films. Despite this, they reconciled, and Weathers later
allowed his likeness to be used in the "Creed" series. In his later
career, he took on smaller roles in TV shows and even directed episodes.
Weathers earned an Emmy nomination in 2021 for his role in "The
Mandalorian."
Carl Weathers leaves
behind his ex-wife, Mary Ann, and their two sons.
